FIU GIS Center

The Geospatial Data hosted by the Florida International University Library GIS Center are collected from various federal, state, county and other agencies ("data sources") who are data stewards, originators, producers, or publishers. The data sources are listed in each data layer's metadata as the Data Originator or Content Publisher.

The data available in GIS Center’s Geoportal may not be the most current version of the data offered by the data source. FIU GIS Center makes no guarantees about the currency of the data and suggests that users check with the data source (listed as the Data Originator or Publisher in the metadata) to see if more recent versions of the data exist.

The GIS data available in the Geoportal are provided "as is". The GIS Center makes no warranties, guaranties or representations about the truth, accuracy, completeness, quality or suitability of the data, either expressly or implied, including but not limited to any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The FIU GIS Center shall not be liable for any damages suffered as a result of using, modifying, contributing, displaying or distributing the materials.

FIU Geoportal data layers distributed via the website  are considered public information and users are free to utilize the data according to each data layer's metadata (documentation). It is each user's responsibility to read the entire metadata document for the data, in particular the Use and Access Constraints sections. When using FIU Geoportal data in maps, reports, documentation, or websites, please acknowledge FIU GIS Center and the individual data layer's Data Originator/ Content Publisher (as noted in the metadata).

FIU Geoportal regularly updates as many of its data layers as we have time for, but with over 1200 data layers, it is difficult to update every single data layer as the updated data becomes available. If you find an updated version of a data layer in FIU Geoportal, please contact us and we will try to get the layer into the FIU Geoportal.
